All your sons (and daughters) will be taught of the Lord and great will be your children's peace. — Isaiah 54:13 During the elementary years, children reach an age where they have outgrown the nursery, but may have trouble grasping some of the concepts discussed in the adult service. Even though the preaching is on an adult level, God speaks to children often through the message and many parents have shared their amazement at a conversation initiated by their child later in the week. We offer a worship kit for each child with an activity paper, blank paper for notes or illustrations, and a pencil. There are also suggestions for parents on ways to help little ones sit still longer. To help ease the transition, a closed circuit TV area on the second floor, is available giving parents an area for training. To help children gain a stonger theological background, Sunday school classes are offered. Basic understanding of Reformed doctrine and the catechism is shared in several age level classes using various motivating and encouraging contests. On Wednesday night, commonly referred to as Family Night, there are age level groups for both boys and girls. For boys, there is Tree Climbers for first and second graders along with Boy's Brigade for third through sixth graders. For girls, Little WICs (Women in the Church) is for first through sixth graders. Each group focuses on applying reinforcement of topics discussed during Sunday school, Sunday morning services, and more. Boys earn badges and work on building strong character traits as they grow into manhood and moms and daughters work together on crafts and Bible study time sharing what it means to be a godly woman. There are special events: a TEA, soap box derby for the boys, camping, several service projects, and more. |
